● The courses within the Pelvic Health Development Program are offered through IAMT. This 4-part course series and certification is designed to approach pelvic health concepts from an orthopedic framework, focusing on an integrated, whole-body approach and enabling the clinician to think beyond the pelvic floor muscles and address the local, regional, and global impairments that often impact the pelvis. The series initially focuses on recognizing and treating pelvic floor dysfunction as it coexists with lumbar spine and hip impairments, and builds upon those concepts to address patients with pelvic floor dysfunction as their primary diagnosis. Additionally, this course series presents a gender-inclusive approach to pelvic health concepts, empowering clinicians to treat patients of all genders immediately after attending the introductory course, continuing to address patients of all genders in the intermediate and advanced coursework. To that end, clinicians of all genders are welcomed at every course, without any restrictions or requirements to bring lab models.

Minimum Requirements include:

  • Candidates must be an employee of an Upstream partner clinic upon the time of matriculation and have graduated from an accredited PT/PTA/OT/OTA program
  • Current PT/PTA/OT/OTA state licensure
  • Recommended to have current continuing education practice in evaluation and treatment to the lumbar spine, pelvic girdle, and lower quarter

The program is 18 months, on average, with cohorts beginning biannually.

Yes, we accept applications from new graduates

As a participant, you must be employed by Upstream Rehab Partners before matriculation into the program. We are happy to assist in that process.

You must be eligible for licensure prior to matriculation into the program. Participants are able to start the program on a temporary license where applicable.

The Pelvic Health Development Program can be completed in any of the regions throughout the company. If you are participating in this program and there is not a mentor within a reasonable distance from your clinic, you will have the option to complete mentorship virtually.

At this time, there is no cost to the clinician for participation in this program. All participants are considered full-time associates through Upstream Rehab and the Pelvic Health Development Program is a company benefit. The continuing education (CE) courses through IAMT that comprise the formal education are designed to be within your CE benefit as a URPT associate. We ask that hours spent receiving mentorship occur outside patient care hours.

While this program is not currently an accredited residency, many of the content areas included on the WCS exam are included as part of the PHDP. It provides in-depth knowledge of the pelvic health components of the WCS exam, as well as foundational knowledge of other content included on the WCS examination, such as osteoporosis, mastectomy, etc.

  • Combination of both live and online CEU courses
  • Virtual inservices
  • Small group tutorials
  • Mentorship with an advanced pelvic health clinician focusing on practical application of didactic knowledge, critical thinking, and integration of successful pelvic rehabilitation practice within a clinic environment.

Each participant will participate in 1-3 hours/month of clinical mentoring with an assigned pelvic health specialist. This can look a little different for each mentee. Our mentoring model encourages collaboration to progress your advanced clinical reasoning, manual and active therapy skill sets, as well as a thorough understanding of operational excellence within the field of pelvic health rehabilitation to build a successful and sustainable pelvic health practice.

Mentoring is always a structured experience in regards to each session, but the venue may be flexible. A core value for URI is adaptability and we therefore allow mentoring to occur at the mentor’s clinic, mentee’s clinic, virtually, or a combination of the above.
