RESILIENCY PILLAR – STRESS MANAGEMENT

Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. Increased stress levels can lead to many physical ailments as well as take a toll on your mental health. When feeling stressed, it’s important to identify the cause of the stress to be able to adequately manage and control it.

It may not be easy to determine the root cause and it’s not uncommon to have to cope with high levels of stress without knowing its source. Here are a few helpful ways you to manage and cope with stress:

Communication – Often, stress can be reduced with proper communication with others. At work, be sure to communicate your stress with your supervisor and discuss your responsibilities and expectations. The conversation might help to find clarity and also create an awareness of your stress.

Set Goals – Don’t rush the process, take time to establish personal and professional goals. Make sure to set realistic expectations and timeframes.

Practice Mindfulness – Try to stay in the present moment by taking slow, deep breaths and focusing on what each of your senses is noticing. This can help you slow down and ground yourself.

Set Boundaries – Letting others know that you need time to devote to yourself and setting boundaries is an important step to improving your mental health.

Reach out for Support – Seek support from friends, family, and coworkers when needed. The people you care about will understand how you feel and possibly be able to help.

Discover Happiness – Reflect on what makes you happy and build those activities into your routine.
With a routine focused on regular movement, mindful breathing and a newfound sense of gratitude, your well-being will increase and you will reduce your anxiety, negative thinking, and stress.

The sooner you start, the quicker you’ll clear out your mental clutter!
